I direct the Nontuberculous Mycobacterial (NTM) Infection Clinic within the Pulmonary Section in the Department of Medicine, at Miami VA Medical Center. Our mission is to serve NTM patients and develop relevant research to improve diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of NTM.Our research group is responsible for discovering biomarkers for better diagnosis and treatment of patients with NTM. My lab applies a combination of omics techniques to assess the risk of pulmonary NTM. We are also exploring the role of genomics and metabolomics in NTM. One major aspect of our current research is to better define the host- pathogen interactions. My lab is directed towards identifying and characterizing host factors that play a role in the pathogenesis of pulmonary NTM infection, with special focus on Mycobacterium abscessus. Recently the lab’s focus has been on the development of an animal model for NTM-COPD
